Mick Schumacher Hoping To Reclaim His Dad’s Records From Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton could equal Michael Schumacher’s win record on Sunday at the Russian Grand Prix, and he looks set to also match the German as a seven-time World Champion once the season draws to a close.

Commenting on the inevitability of Hamilton matching Schumacher’s F1 win record, his son, Mick, said records are made to be broken.

“One sentence my dad always used to say was records are there to be broken,” Schumacher said on Friday ahead of the Russian Grand Prix.

“It’s everybody’s aim in the sport to do that. I think Lewis had a very, very good run – he had a very consecutive and positive run.

“Records are there to be broken and, from our side, I think we see it on a good side too. It’s good for the sport. He [Hamilton] has been very influential in this sport too.”

Continuing, Schumacher said he hopes he can one day reclaim his dad’s records from Hamilton.

“The next aim would be then I guess for me, if I do make the step [into Formula One], to break that again.”

Mick Schumacher added that he doesn’t know Hamilton that well but would like to have a “longer chat with him” at some point.

The 21-year-old German is currently leading the Formula 2 standings and is likely to make the step up into F1 next year.
